Journey with Jonah – Misreckoning with God (chapter 4)
During this final week of the COVID-19 stay at home orders, as we worship in our homes, Pastor John leads the church through daily meditative and reflective readings of the Old Testament book of Jonah, which surprisingly, has some parallels and analogies with the cultural upheaval we are currently experiencing
Today’s takeaway # 4 – Jonah knew the heart and character of God (“I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity” v.2), and yet he was very disappointed when God did not destroy the Ninevites. Why do we continue to struggle with partiality when it comes to various people groups and ethnicities when God shows no partiality (see Romans 2:11)? Are we more like Jonah than we care to admit, that we really don’t want other ethnicities or enemies to be treated with the same mercy and equalities that we’ve been blessed to receive?
