I was born in Denver, Colorado and grew up in the Church of the Nazarene. I attended Northwest Nazarene University and had four great years there. Four days after graduation, I married Renee on June 16, 1994. We then moved to Kansas City where I graduated from Nazarene Theological Seminary and Renee graduated with a business degree from MidAmerica Nazarene University. We loved our time in Kansas City (and the BBQ), but God moved us back to my home state where I became pastor of the South Broadway Church of the Nazarene in Boulder. It was there I began my doctoral studies at Denver Seminary and Renee graduated from Regis University with her MBA. We also visited the Holy Land with a group of fellow ministers from Colorado and had the most remarkable time in Israel.
Our time in Boulder was amazing, but in 2002 we moved to Oregon where I became the pastor of the All Things Good Church (formally the Springfield Church of the Nazarene). I am the longest serving pastor in the 71 year history of the church, nearly completing my 18th year. I also teach the following courses for Nazarene Bible College – Spiritual Formation; Biblical Interpretation; Introduction to Christian Service; Communicating Christ Cross-Culturally/Developing a Missional Church; Leadership of Christian Educational Ministries; Introduction to the New Testament; Christian Preaching I; Exploring John Wesley’s Theology.
We have two great sons! Caleb is 18, loves everything football (he’s basically inaccessible during the three days of the NFL draft), and runs track as a RiverHawk at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg. Micah is 14 and loves sports too, as well as reading, animals, and video games, and feels called into the ministry! Renee is my best friend and is a masterful baker and cook. She’s also quite crafty when it comes to women’s ministry events, etc. I love to read, garden, landscape, and I have recently learned how to brew kombucha and love sharing that with others who also enjoy kombucha.
